Cyprus hosts largest number of British expats after Ireland

Cyprus hosts the second largest number of British expats across Europe, a study by stag do and hen party organiser AMPILOT found, along with some of the friendliest people in the continent.

“Second only to Ireland, Cyprus is brimming with Brits” the study said, ranking the attitude of host countries from ‘the more the merrier’ as the most friendly to ‘I think I’m buzy that day’ as the least friendly.

Cyprus saw itself on the second level along with countries such as the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Spain and Finland with ‘let’s grab a beer sometime’ while Ireland, Portugal, Belgium and Austria among others topped the charts with some of the best attitudes.

“The farther East you go, the less foreigner-friendly the people seem to become. Those states looking to join the European Union mostly buck the trend, with Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro standing out as particularly friendly” the study said.

Cyprus, which is grouped in Eastern Europe had the largest number of expats in that bloc with 35 per 1,000 people followed by Greece that lagged way behind at 0.78 per 1,000 people and Hungary at 0.59. Ireland has 54 British expats per 1,000 leading the pack in Europe.

“Overall, we hope this information will help Brits decide where they might be most welcomed as they move through Europe both for work and leisure as it’s currently quite difficult to find reliable information about how countries feel about people from the UK,” one of AMPILOT’s founders Rasmus Aarup Christiansen told Journalism.co.uk .

The best countries for the Brits to live in were Ireland in first place followed by Austria and Spain.
