No injuries in bus explosion

A MINIBUS was bombed yesterday in what police suspect was due to business differences between the owners of two travel taxi companies.

Yesterday’s powerful explosion destroyed the minibus and damaged neighbouring vehicles also belonging to the same taxi company.

“The bomb was powerful and we are very fortunate that no lives were lost,” said Limassol Police Chief Tassos Economides.

The explosion occurred at around 10pm on Sunday night just outside the taxi offices of Costas Elpidorou on Makarios III Avenue in downtown Limassol.

The minibus then caught fire.

Police later discovered that the bomb used was a homemade device and had been placed just below the windshield.

According to investigators, the company’s secretary was in the office at the time of the blast.

“You could say that our lives were put in danger,” the secretary told reporters.

“I heard the explosion and ran out. There was pandemonium.”

Fire Service officials immediately rushed to the scene of the explosion as did police investigators. The fire was quickly brought under control.

The owner also arrived and immediately began speaking with the investigators.

“I got a call from an employee telling me to come to the office because somebody had bombed us,” he told reporters.

In his statement to police, Elpidorou noted his suspicions towards some people who may have been angered by his decision to pull out of a recent business deal he had made with them.

Limassol CID are still investigating.
