Beauty buzzwords

If you are keen to try out the latest beauty therapies, you’ll be glad to know some of them have reached our shores

To say that cosmetic therapies have reached almost space-age status is not an overstatement. Within a couple of decades, we have progressed from using simple galvanic current to deep cleanse and refine skin texture, to various other currents or soundwaves to achieve much deeper skin rejuvenation and maintain a youthful look.
MESOTHERAPY is the newest beauty buzzword in salons and dermatologists’ surgeries, and is one of a growing number of non-surgical options for maintaining a youthful glow. It can be applied either as an injectable by a medically-qualified individual only, or, as a needle-free salon treatment by a beauty therapist.

Mesotherapy was developed by a French GP in the 1950s, his theory being that certain conditions could be treated by injecting small amounts of medicine into the problem area. Today, mesotherapy is actually mainstream medicine and now also a cosmetic therapy.
In the last few decades, all sorts of products have become available that slather vitamins or other things ONTO the skin. Now, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, growth factors or, in the case of body treatments, fat burning ingredients can be injected INTO the skin. With the needle-free option, the above ingredients are pushed deeply into the skin via the use of a special electrode, which utilises sophisticated electrical currents to ionise them and push ingredients towards the dermis.

The procedure can be used to treat cellulite, specific fatty areas, stretch marks, stress-related hair loss and is very good for rejuvenating the skin on the face, improving acne, dark eye circles and wrinkles. Several dermatologists and beauty salons now offer this treatment in Cyprus, and it has been embraced by the buck spending public.

GOLDEN TREATMENT

Those clever ROSVEDA people have recently launched yet another gorgeous skin treatment, the Rasayana Gold Facial.

The treatment utilises real gold leaf and is no gimmick, as gold is actually an integral part of ancient Ayurvedic Rasayana recipies and therapies. And not only do the products contain gold leaf, but they are also of a high standard, effective, gentle and world class. The facial treatment was very gentle, calming and left my tired face feeling amazing. The facial lasts between 45 minutes and an hour or more.

Rasayna is a word derived from Ayurvedic science and translates as rejuvenation, longevity and immortality and is the culmination of years of Ayurvedic wisdom. A paper written by an Ayurvedic doctor quotes, “Rasayana means a medium through which the body’s necessary fluid, known as rasa or plasma, is maintained and rejuvenated. Plasma is responsible for sustaining body tissues, blood, muscles, hormones, bones, everything.” Of course there is more to Rasayana than just having a facial, but the products, ingredients and method of application are inspired by and based on authentic Ayurveda recipes and are formulated and manufactured by Ayurveda specialists and scientists at a family-run company in India.

The treatment consists of a deep, gentle cleansing of the skin, using a mildly foaming gel, containing gold leaf and skin-enhancing saffron, a soothing rose tonic is then patted into skin. A gentle scrub with a hydrating base and naturally-sourced particles is worked over the face and neck and removed with hot towels and water that is beautifully scented with natural essential oils. By this stage you will become relaxed by the hypnotic scents of the products, which I hasten to add, are not synthetically fragranced. The remainder of the treatment involves silky textured gels and creams, containing gold leaf, saffron, turmeric and other ingredients sourced for their purity from Asia and the Far East. A shoulder and scalp massage can be incorporated into the treatment, with the final stages being the application of a custom-blended mask, followed by their amazing velvety ‘Nourishing Skin Cream’.

The gold leaf actually dissolves into the skin and has powerful anti-ageing properties, helps to balance the nervous system, improves memory and is renowned for improving functions of body and skin tissues.

The treatment costs from £35 for 45 minutes, and is a great anti-aging and anti-wrinkle facial suiting most skins.
