European Youth Parliament in Cyprus

THE first National Session of the European Youth Parliament Cyprus is taking place in Larnaca from September 7-9 2007.

The European Youth Parliament is a unique experience for delegates who have the opportunity to participate in any of its sessions. The EYP reaches out to young people across Europe, encouraging them to have their say in shaping the future of their continent. The EYP thus seeks to promote the European dimension in education and to give students in the 16-22 age group the opportunity to participate in a practical, positive learning experience.

As the citizens of the future, the EYP experience encourages young people to be aware of the thoughts and characteristics of other nations, respect their differences, and learn to work together for a common good. The EYP constitutes a forum in which these young people can express their own opinions, without any political connotations and without reverting to role-play.

The most prominent part of the EYP?s activities are the three international nine-day sessions organised each a year. These are held in different European countries each time, bringing together 250-300 students and teachers from Europe in its widest sense – not just the 27-member EU. For more information about the European Youth Parliament please visit the website www.eypej.org.

Participation in the Cypriot National Session will give students the opportunity to participate in the International Sessions of the European Youth Parliament, as well as other regional EYP events occuring throughout the year all over Europe. The purpose of the national session is to bring together students from various schools in Cyprus in a three-day session, which will contain the standard EYP activities such as team building, committee work and the General Assembly. The students will be judged throughout the three-day session by an independent jury made up of experienced alumni of the EYP in other countries who are well aware of the qualities needed for students who will take part in sessions of the European Youth Parliament abroad.

n Invitations to schools and calls for sponsors will be sent out very shortly. For any information or enquires please contact Nassos Stylianou on 99-743377 or contact EYP Cyprus via email on [email protected].
