Festive spirit?

Sir,

Living in the ‘sticks’ on the outskirt of town, my neighbour and I, together with the wives decided to go out for a bit of Christmas cheer, a drink to a local hotel in Paphos.  A drink to celebrate the old year, and something to look forward to in 2007.  When we arrived there were several couples already in the foyer and bar area of the hotel.  They were either reading or playing cards.  No music, no cheer, you could have heard a pin drop.  Then a Father Christmas came in and said “Yo Ho Ho and a bottle of rum”.  That just about summed up the atmosphere, it had the ambience of a wake.  We really do know how to show our tourists, who have left their homes and come to our shores for the festive season, a really good time don’t we?
