Baggage causes bomb scare

A BOMB scare sent security scrambling at the Larnaca Airport on Monday evening when a bomb detection instrument mistakenly sounded an alarm over the luggage of an American woman travelling to Tel Aviv.

The 133 passengers on the El Al flight had already passed through passport control and security check when the bomb detection machine went off, instantly drawing El Al security.

The passengers were forced to undergo another inspection and body check. Sniffer dogs were brought in to examine the luggage, with El Al security going so far as to request inspection of the security cameras to see whether they had been tampered with.

No suspicious materials were found inside the American woman’s luggage.

Nevertheless, she was forced to leave her belongings behind in Cyprus with her husband while she continued on to Tel Aviv on the delayed flight without baggage.
