15 charged in gambling raids

FIFTEEN people were charged in two separate raids in Limassol for illegal gambling involving over €10,000, police said yesterday.

Armed with search warrants, police arrived at the first house late on Sunday night and found seven people playing cards for money. All seven were charged in writing, including the homeowner, and released. Police gathered as evidence 209 playing cards and €2,050 in cash.

The second raid took place during the early hours of yesterday. Again police, armed with a search warrant, entered the private home and found seven people playing cards for money. All seven, including a person standing guard, were charged in writing and released. Two hundred and nine playing cards and €9,720 in cash were gathered as evidence.

Ayios Ioannis police station is investigating both cases.
