Clerides’ health improves

FORMER Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides’ health yesterday saw a ‘very satisfactory’ improvement, his doctors announced.

According to his personal doctor, Iosif Kasios, Clerides underwent a series of tests yesterday morning, the results of which were very good.

“His condition this morning was very satisfactory,” said Kasios. “We hope he continues this way, but you can never be sure what the future holds for a man with so many health problems at such an age,” he added.

Kasios said Clerides was in his usual good humour, while the operation in his left hip – which was cancelled on Friday due to health complications – will take place depending on how his condition progresses.

The former President was taken to Evangelistria Clinic last Thursday with a fractured hip.

He was yesterday visited by President Demetris Christofias – who said they talked about developments in the Cyprus problem – and MEPs Ioannis Kasoulides and Panayiotis Demetriou.
