THE FOREIGN Ministry was busy yesterday issuing warnings and help information for Cypriot nationals in various hotspots around the world from India to the Congo.
Other than the death of a Cypriot with British nationality, the only Cypriot passport holder in Mumbai is a female student.
“She is safe and staying with Indian friends,” a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry said.
The Ministry’s Director General, Nicos Aimiliou, said they were also looking into whether there were any Cypriots in New Delhi so they could be contacted.
Regarding the situation in Thailand, he said the Ministry had identified 25 Cypriot nationals in the country but said they were not in any danger.
“The Department of Consular Affairs is in telephone contact with them to provide whatever assistance they need,” said Aimiliou.
Due to the absence of a Cypriot consulate in Thailand, Aimiliou said the Ministry was liaising with the Greek authorities who will provide all the necessary help to Cypriots there.
The Cypriots in Thailand are holidaying at the resort of Phuket and arrangements will be made for them to be flown home through another country. Bangkok’s two airports are closed.
The Ministry also advises Cypriots who intend to visit Thailand to be especially careful and avoid places of mass gatherings and demonstrations.
The ministry also calls on Cypriot citizens to obtain the latest information on the situation prior to visiting the country.

The Ministry is also making arrangements to help Cypriot nationals resident in the Congo.
An announcement said that Cypriots nationals “who reside or are trapped’ the Congo may in an emergency turn to the Greek Embassy in Kinshasa, and both Greek Consulates in cities Kinsangkani (Kisangani) and Lubumbashi (Lubumbashi).

The Foreign Ministry said that in the event of an evacuation of EU nationals, the Greek Embassy would arrange to include families of Cypriot nationals.
