Baby critical after second-floor fall

A 19-MONTH-old baby is in critical injury after he fell from the second floor of his apartment block yesterday lunchtime, police said.

Police are investigating how the little Russian boy toppled out of his bedroom window at around 12.50pm on Galileos Street in Larnaca.

The toddler hit the building’s water tank on the way down and then proceeded to fall on the concrete ground.

The 19-month-old was rushed to Larnaca hospital’s Accident and Emergency department and from there rushed to Makarios hospital’s Intensive Care Unit in Nicosia. His condition is critical.

Larnaca police chief Soteris Hadjichristofis said investigators were looking into all possibilities and would start by taking a statement from the child’s mother. The authorities are believed to want to know what the Russian woman was doing at the time the accident occurred, reports said.
