Syrian builder finds wallet containing €12,000… and hands it to police

LIMASSOL Police are impressed by the honesty of 39-year-old Rashid Mustafa, who found a wallet with €12,000 lying on the street and immediately delivered it to police so that it would be returned to its rightful owner.

Mustafa, originally from Syria, has been working on construction sites in Cyprus over the past 15 years and has three daughters. On Monday morning while on his way to work, he saw the wallet on the side of the street at Panthea in Limassol. He stopped and opened the purse, which contained €12,000, as well as its owner’s passport and ID.

Mustafa immediately called police and went to the local station to deliver it. Police called the wallet’s owner to collect it.

“I could not believe it when I got the purse with the profits from my shop just half an hour after I reported it missing to police,” said the owner of the purse, a 39-year-old man from Limassol who owns a hunting goods shop.

Limassol Police said they would officially honour Mustafa for his honesty.
