Shop owner celebrates the end of road works

THE owner of an IT shop in central Nicosia has marked the completion of lengthy road works in his street while also displaying a sense of humor.

To celebrate the opening of the road, the owner put up a poster in the shop window displaying three orangutans , with the caption ‘Thank you for finishing, it was only four months overdue, take care’.

Stelios Stylianides, the owner of Megaland on Diagorou Street, has suffered major financial loss over the past year due the road works.

As he stated, sales were down by 70 per cent over the last few months due to the road works extending to the shop’s doorstep, and deterring customers from entering.

“We still haven’t seen an increase in the number of customers coming into the shop,” said Stylianides. “Since the road works were only completed on Monday it will be some time before people realise that our shop is now accessible.”

He added that the road works had been going on for 230 days, and that an average of one metre of road was worked on each day.

He said that while the end of the road works was a huge relief, the damage his business had suffered had been detrimental and he held the authorities responsible for not honouring the set deadline.
