Search team finds lost British hiker

A SEARCH and rescue team had to be sent out to locate a 28-year-old British woman who lost her way while hiking in the Paphos district, police said yesterday.

The woman went missing at around 2pm on Thursday while she was in the Tsada area in the Paphos district.

Police and local residents made up search parties to help find the woman who was finally tracked down at around 7pm in a rural area between Tsada golf course and the abandoned Turkish village of Moro Nero.

A police helicopter was also scrambled from Larnaca airport to join in the search.

The woman was taken to Paphos general hospital for a check-up, police said.

Burglars steal €135,000

OVER €100,000 in cash was reported stolen from a 36-year-old Nicosia man’s home, police said yesterday.

According to the complaint, the theft took place some time between September 2 and 4. He said the thieves made off with his safe, which contained €135,000 in cash.

Police said an arrest warrant has been issued for a 31-year-old woman who is wanted in connection with the theft.

Nicosia CID is investigating.

Villager arrested after gun threat

A 72-YEAR-old Nicosia district villager was arrested in custody after he threatened a fellow villager at gunpoint, police said yesterday.

The incident took place at around 9.50pm on Thursday. Apparently the suspect threatened a 62-year-old villager while pointing a hunting shotgun at him. Sources said the older man was apparently drunk at the time and the two did not have any differences.

Palechori police station is investigating.
