Man accused of raping heavily pregnant ex-fiance

A YOUNG woman from Limassol said yesterday she had been raped by her ex-fiance while eight months pregnant with his baby.

According to the 25-year-old, the incident took place a little over a month ago but she was too scared to inform the police as he was threatening her.

She told police she had called off her engagement to the 19-year-old man last February, after realising he was violent.

But around a month ago and while she was pregnant with his baby, the 19-year-old asked her to meet up and reconcile.

She agreed, but soon regretted her decision when he held her at knifepoint and tried to force her into getting back together.

He started beating his ex-fiancée, before taking her back to his home and forcing her – at gunpoint – into having sex with him.

The man, according to the 25-year-old’s statement to Limassol police, was completely indifferent to the fact that she was pregnant.

The woman said she hadn’t reported the crime sooner out of fear, as the man was threatening her and her child, which was born a few days after the attack.

But after being urged to report it by her family, she did so on Monday.

The 19-year-old was arrested yesterday and led before Limassol District Court, which ordered his three-day remand.
