Paphos agrees to reopen avenue to traffic

THE REQUEST of a majority of shop-keepers in the Paphos tourist area was finally met yesterday with the decision to reopen Poseidonos Avenue in Kato Paphos to traffic on September 5.

The decision was announced at noon yesterday by Paphos Mayor Savvas Vergas, following the approval of the Police Headquarters.

The Poseidonos beach-front avenue will open to traffic on September 5 in the direction from the tourist area of Yeroskipou towards Kato Paphos Harbour.

Vergas yesterday informed the heads of the municipal teams of the decision of the police.

“We have the approval of the Police Headquarters, which allows the opening of the Avenue from east to west, from the tourist area of Yeroskipou up to Paphos Harbour,” he said.

The shopkeepers of the tourist area, which were calling for the opening of Poseidonos Avenue to traffic since its pedestrianisation earlier this summer, expressed their satisfaction over this development.

The Municipality of Paphos will monitor the opening until next summer and if problems arise they will close it again.
