Drugs remand

A TAXI driver has been remanded in custody for eight days after being arrested in possession of five kilos of cannabis.

After a tip-off, members of the Police Drug Squad found a backpack with five kilos of the drug in the boot of the 36-year-old’s taxi in the village of Arediou.

The suspect has confessed to committing the crime and has been co-operating with the police. He has admitted to bringing the drugs to Cyprus from Brussels for a fee of €5,000. Names of the people that had given him the drugs, who are believed to be Cypriots currently residing abroad, have been given to the police.
