Police search for man who had sex with girlfriend’s underage daughter

A 29-YEAR-OLD Syrian man is wanted by police after being suspected of having sex with the 15-year-old daughter of his girlfriend.

The girl told a friend what had happened, who then told her mother who proceeded to report it to the police.

When questioned, the 15-year-old confirmed that she had taken part in sexual activity with the man.

According to local press, she said that this happened only after she had given consent.

The legal age of consent for sex is 16, which means that the act between the minor and the 29-year-old can only be described as rape since consent is not even raised.

Controversially, however, on March 21 this year the Nicosia appeals court had accepted a 50-year-old man’s argument that a 13-year-old girl’s lack of consent had not been proved to establish rape.

In other words, consent was accepted as an argument in favour of the paedophile, despite the legal age of consent being 16.

The Attorney-general’s office and the Advisory Committee for the Prevention and Combating of Family Violence as well as House Deputies publicly voiced their disagreement with the decision at the time.

The 15-year-old claims that while she was taking a shower, her mother’s boyfriend asked her to come out and have sex with him. When she refused, the man allegedly asked for oral sex, which she also refused.

What subsequently ensued which prompted the girl to consent, as she claims, is unclear.

The man had been living with the teenage girl’s mother for the past year.

It appears that the girl had been troubled by the sexual relations between the two adults, to the extent that she scrawled details of the sexual acts committed between her mother and the man on the walls outside their house.

Her mother told police that she had advised her daughter not to make physical moves which would tempt the man.

The police have yet to locate the Syrian.
