Man arrested for hit-and-run death

A 36-YEAR-old Egyptian man was yesterday remanded in custody for two days in connection with Monday’s hit-and-run, which left one man dead and a teenager in critical condition, police said.

The accident occurred in Deftera in the Nicosia district on Monday afternoon.

The suspect allegedly confessed to hitting the duo, who were driving a motorbike on Archbishop Makarios Avenue in Deftera. He told investigators he fled the scene because he’d been afraid.

Twenty-year-old Nikos Avgousti from Psimolofou was killed, while his 17-year-old passenger is still in critical condition, police said.
