Boy of five fighting for his life after being hit by car

A FIVE-year-old Russian boy, Daniel Boroviev, is fighting for his life at the Nicosia General Hospital after he was hit by a car on Friday night.

The accident happened on Ayias Phaneromenis Street in Mesoyi outside in Paphos at 9.40pm, when a 61-year-old woman from Britain hit the boy with her car as was he ran across the road.

The boy was initially taken to Paphos General Hospital, but the seriousness of his injuries warranted that he be transported to Nicosia.

He suffered severe cranial injuries and is currently supported by a ventilator.

Daniel was holidaying in Cyprus with his parents.

“It appears that his parents were not watching him,” said Zinonas Psathitis of Paphos Traffic Department.

“He was standing behind a parked vehicle before he tried to cross the road and this is why the driver did not see him.”

Psathitis advised drivers to “show extra caution when driving in residential areas”.

This is the third road accident in Paphos this week, the other two already claiming two lives.

Meanwhile, on Friday afternoon an 18-year old motorcyclist was also severely injured after he collided with a 43-year-old woman’s car.

The accident happened on Spyros Kyprianou Avenue in Limassol at 4.30pm, inflicting heavy cranial injuries on the motorcyclist.

He is also being treated at Nicosia General Hospital, and doctors have assessed his condition as “serious, but not critical”.
