Nestle HEAVEN
“Open here to go to HEAVEN,” the box promises. A Swiss milk chocolate egg accompanied by mini eggs with a soft dark truffle centre. It was a relief to see Nestle being environmentally aware with a recycling logo on the stylish box, made from a sustainable source. “Your day is about to get much better…” the blurb promises. The reality? An egg that tastes smooth and milky. Not at all bad but we haven’t gone to heaven, yet. The six mini eggs tasted good and the dark chocolate truffle inside was soft and rich, so you couldn’t have too many of these at once. Overall a good choice. Made in the UK.

GuyLian
“The World’s Favourite Belgian Chocolates,” declares the box. A gold-foil covered egg and two Belgian chocolate sculpted sea shell bars with smooth praline centres. The egg has a pleasing taste, creamy and smooth. The bars look beautiful and tasted delightful, melting slowly in the mouth. The praline centres beneath the pretty sea-inspired designs were delicious. Good value. Made in Belgium.

Bang on the Door Groovy Egg
For groovy chics everywhere this is “chocolate manufactured in a nut-free zone”. The bright, cheery packaging grabs the attention of young girls. It looks fun. Inside is a milk chocolate egg and two milk chocolate bars (for Funky Girl and Groovy Chic) with crispy cereal pieces. I liked the crispy pieces and the chocolate tasted OK. One young tester thought the inside was “boring” compared to the packaging, and another found the chocolate a bit oily. The egg shell was noticeably thinner than the others. “Carefully” manufactured in the UK by Kinnerton.

Mars Planets
A gold foil-covered hollow egg with three bags of milk chocolates with assorted centres. Four ‘E’ numbers overall in both the egg and the chocolates. Mars is reducing the amount of plastic in Easter egg packaging and is committed to using recycled cardboard – which is estimated by them to save 12,000 trees. We were reassured by all this but found the actual taste of the egg very disappointing, it tasted more like sugar than chocolate. Made in the UK.

Cadbury’s Mini Eggs
The environment issue is raised again on the box of this offering from Cadbury which is “supporting the (National) Trust’s ancient trees and woodland conservation programme”. The distinctive purple Cadbury wrapping was peeled off to reveal an egg imprinted with a chick. We tucked in to find that the taste was reminiscent of their chocolate buttons – a good thing. A popular choice with only positive comments; it seems like Cadbury know what they are doing. Made at Cadbury’s in Birmingham, UK.

JACQUOT CHOCOLATIER Le Lapin Vichy
The pretty chequered cardboard basket holds a chocolate bunny alongside 13 mini eggs wrapped in colourful gold and pink foil, surrounded in a cellophane wrapper. The hollow rabbit comes with a fur imprint and white chocolate eyes. The eggs, with their soft praline centre were very sweet but very likeable. The rabbit tasted the same, though it was rather sickly and left a funny feeling in my throat. Great seasonal presentation for this milky chocolate rabbit. Made in France.

FERRERO ROCHER
I couldn’t resist as Ferrero Rocher make my favourite chocolates. The packaging promises a surprise inside. We were excited to shake it and find that this was the only one with something inside the hollow egg. But there were no little chocolates within, just a ‘hand-made’ nickel-free silver-coloured star charm with a blue ribbon. The gorgeous aroma of hazelnuts wafted out immediately as I started to peel away the gold wrapping. The hazelnut-infused chocolate was heavenly and tasted like the ultimate indulgence. We all agreed it was a moment of pure delight. This was our favourite by far and tasted just like the small chocolates. Made in Thessaloniki, Greece.
