Parents held

THE PARENTS of a British schoolboy arrested after he was found with 60 cannabis plants growing in his Limassol district home were arrested yesterday evening, police said.

The couple, who had been holidaying in Africa at the time of their 15-year-old son’s arrest on Monday, were arrested at Larnaca airport. They will appear in court today for their remand, police said.

Police believe the plants belong to them and that they had left their son responsible for their upkeep.

The youngster and a 17-year-old friend were found with 60 cannabis plants growing in his Kato Polemidia home following a tip-off.

During questioning the 15-year-old allegedly confessed he had been smoking marijuana since he was 11.

Police had been keen to speak to the couple since the minor’s arrest as they felt they were the real culprits behind the find.

The couple is expected to be remanded for eight days.
