Three held on cocaine charges

THREE young men, two 23-year olds and a 17-year-old, were arrested for illegal possession of drugs on Sunday night and are being held in custody to help police with their inquiries.

At around 9pm Sunday, members of the Nicosia Drug Squad (YKAN) conducted a car search: they found in the 17-year-old’s money-belt a gram of a white substance believed to be cocaine and in his trouser pocket 0.2 grams of a substance believed to be cannabis. The youth was arrested on the spot.

A search of the house the 17-year-old had come out of followed. The owner of the house was a 23-year-old man. A second man of 23 was also found there. The owner of the house was seen throwing three small plastic bags on the ground, trying to destroy one of them, which contained three grams of white powder, believed to be cocaine, and was also arrested, while the other 23-year-old managed to get away only to be found shortly after near his own house.

He handed over to the police 16 small plastic bags, which contained 46 grams of a white substance, believed to be cocaine, as well as a spoon. After the police searched his house they found in his bedroom, precision scales, a gram of dry plant substance believed to be cannabis, as well as a spoon containing traces of a white substance. All findings were held as evidence. Nicosia Drug Squad is investigating the case.
