Bomb scare empties Nicosia courts

POLICE WERE yesterday called to investigate a bomb scare at the Nicosia courts.

According to a police spokeswoman yesterday, a call was made to Simerini newspaper saying a bomb was about to go off in the specific area; the paper in turn informed the police.
A strong police presence arrived at the scene, including members of the Rapid Reaction Unit (MMAD), explosives technicians and sniffer dogs, to investigate the area.

“They realised that there was no bomb and the call had been a prank”, the spokeswoman said, adding that the police were investigating the case. Though she admitted it was unlikely the culprits would be caught.
