Ambulance lane to ease hospital traffic

THE COMMUNICATIONS Ministry yesterday opened the new ambulance lane in Kalamon Avenue in Nicosia.

The lane is part of a host of measures aimed at easing the traffic problem surrounding the new Nicosia General Hospital and offering faster access to ambulances.

An underground passage was built last November for the same purpose under the Nicosia-Limassol highway, which allows access to ambulances, cyclists and pedestrians.

The new lane, around 840 metres long and 3.5 metres wide, will connect the hospital’s roundabout with the Strovolos Industrial Estate roundabout.

The lane will be coloured red and only ambulances will be allowed to use it.
