No progress on mobile phone links

NO breakthrough was recorded during the meeting of negotiators Andreas Mavroyiannis and Ozdil Nami on the mobile phone interoperability across the island, the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) reported on Friday.

The linking of mobile telephony in the south and north of the island is part of the confidence-building measures (CBMs) agreed between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot leaders in May. Currently, Greek Cypriot phones do not work in the north – and vice versa – while calls have to go through Turkey.

Citing sources, the CNA reported that discussion on the issue will continue between the two negotiators and the co-chairs of the technical committee for entrepreneurship, economy and trade and is not expected to be discussed at the meeting of the two leaders on Monday.
