Euro confusion

Sir,

I was very interested in reading about the preparations for the euro in you edition on Sunday December 30.

I queued in the Laiki bank in Paphos last Friday to get a euro starter pack and was told when I got to the counter it was not available until next week.

I have also been told on several occasions at the bank I would need a euro cheque book, although I had nearly a full book in pounds, despite arguing that it was perfectly legal to amend a cheque and sign it.
No refund for the old cheques, but charged for the new book.

I would also like to comment on the car parks in Paphos: since September, it has been a requirement to dual price. This has not been done in Paphos car parks, the meters have been covered the last few days but no indication of what the new charges will be. With all the secrecy, can we expect increased charges, and is Paphos Municipality above the law?

Prices have been rising steadily over the past few months.

I think we are all in for confusion over the next few weeks
