Archbishop: keep the faith but stop being weak

ARCHBISHOP Chrysostomos II has called on the Christian flock to keep their faith and turn to God during the hard economic times, whilst criticising the direction and continual concessions the Greek-Cypriot side keeps making on the Cyprus issue, he

In his Christmas message, the Prelate warns that ‘Cyprus’ Hellenism is being smothered and soon no power will be able to raise and rescue it.”

The Archbishop blames Turkey and outside influences for “this big tragedy”. However he also faults Greek-Cypriots for “negligence in pursuing our rights.”  Chrysostomos II says that because of our over eagerness to implement a tolerable solution we “have absolved Turkey from the burden of guilt of being an invading force, and forgotten their crime of ethnic cleansing” instead even shifting the blame on to our own people.

The Prelate calls on all Greek-Cypriots, from the President of the Republic to every single citizen to hold out against outside political pressure and to pursue the principles of the United Nations, warning “if we do not pursue and fight for our rights no one else will do so for us.”

Chrysostomos II says that we “should not loose faith, and turn to God” in order to avert a bad solution and finally get rid of the invading force. In closing, Chrysostomos II extends his wishes for freedom and hopes that liberty will finally come for Cyprus in 2011
