APOEL thrashed by Treviso in Nicosia

 

GREG Brunner scored 19 points and five more players entered double digits as Benetton Basket Bwin Treviso demolished Cytavision APOEL 97-55 in the first leg of the FIBA EuroCup Qualifying Round on Tuesday night at the Lefkotheo Indoor Arena in Nicosia.

The Cypriot champions held on until midway through the second quarter when the visitors went on a 22-2 run, including seven points by Devin Smith and five by Massimo Bulleri, to close down the first half leading by 19 points.

The second half was a mere formality as the Italian powerhouse cruised to a convincing victory which practically secures their progress into the next stage of the competition.

They recorded 26 assists while shooting 70 per cent from the two-point range in what was a classic team effort.

The second leg of the tie is in Treviso next Wednesday.

“I am really satisfied with the result. We are in a much better situation now that we have spent more time together,” said Treviso head coach Jasmin Repe?a after the match

“APOEL have been together for only two weeks and clearly we were in better shape,” he added.

Charron Fisher led Cytavision APOEL with 17 points, while Ian Hanavan and Augustinas Vitas each had 10 points.

Bulleri netted 13 points for Treviso, while Jakub Wojciechowski and Smith each had 12.

Ryan Toolson and Alessandro Gentile added 11 points apiece, while Serbian international point guard Stefan Markovi? dished out a game-high eight rebounds and grabbed seven rebounds.
