Too much information…..

At the start of this week, UK Foreign Secretary, William Hague felt the need to tweet. He thanked his supporters on Twitter for, well, being supportive in their comments over his predicament. And he said he hoped he had nailed the ‘big lie’ about him being gay. Well, I think the point is, who really cares whether or not William is gay and why is he discussing it publicly?

Why did he feel the need to unburden himself the week before with what can only be described as the gayest public statement about his private life ever uttered by a politician? I use the term ‘gayest’ in the sense that most teenagers use it these days to mean pathetic, ridiculous and uncool.

Was his wife, Ffion, really Ok with him broadcasting to the world how many miscarriages she had had, including one as recently as this summer? And why tell the world that he occasionally shared a twin room with a 25-year-old male adviser while campaigning before the election. Could he or the party not afford two rooms? I have massive respect for William Hague as a politician. He usually comes across as the brightest person in the Tory Party. So why did he respond to the rumours and feel the need to say all this? It is all entirely a private matter.

In contrast to this, Wayne Rooney, looking pretty sharp in his handling of the press, if not his private life, is refusing to say anything to anyone about the latest sex and prostitution allegations. Good for him for not responding to media pressure. As usual, the media is doing its best to give Fabio Capello an even harder job than he already has. And parents’ groups are calling for Rooney to ‘lose money and sponsorship’ because he is supposed to be a role model for young children.

Apparently his behaviour has offended the moral fibre of the pompous and hypocritical great British public. Honestly, he is a footballer and more importantly, he is a man. If these allegations are true, would any man in his position behave differently? These guys usually have beautiful women queuing up to sleep with them. I guess if the sex involves a prostitute who demands loads of cash to do it, she is not exactly throwing herself at him but you get the point.

If Wayne does decide to make a statement, I think it should be a bit more risqué than the Hague effort and focus on something people actually want to know about. He should address the insinuations in ‘Juicy Jeni’s’ comments to the press about him being ugly and shy and awkward in bed. Those might be big lies worth nailing!
