First Paphos university gets licence

NEAPOLIS University, the first of its kind in Paphos has been given its operational licence by the ministry of education.

Minister Andreas Demetriou presented the document to Micael Leptosm, head of the Leptos Group – the company behind the new university.

Demetriou noted the importance of “this specific educational organisation not only for the town of Paphos but also for the whole district.’

In his statement, the Dean of Neapolis, Ilias Dinenis, said the licence had actually been issued in May, following the completion of the evaluating procedures by the relevant committee.

“They had decided then to issue the document, in order for the University to proceed,” he said.

Dinenis added that the new university possess not only a professional structure but also offers athletic opportunities with its gym, tennis court and swimming pool. These are advantages over other institutions he said.

The Dean a relaxing environment had been created at Neapolis, which would aid the students to achieve greater results in their studies.

The new university opens on October 4, and Dinenis said the greatest demand so far was for Masters’ degrees in psychology, architecture and in financial and business courses.

He said students wishing to enroll for the degree course had been fewer those who applied to do a Master’s, but put this down to the fact that many were still waiting to discover if they had been accepted to other universities.
