Two important collections go on show at Leventis

THE LEVENTIS Museum has announced that it is exhibiting important archaeological collections from two Cypriots Demosthenis Severis and Chris Phylactou in its new wing ‘Constantine Leventis’.

The owners – who inherited their respective collections – have given them to the Museum on long-term loan, with the approval of the Department of Antiquities.

The Severis Collection had already been published in an illustrated catalogue by Vassos Karageorghis in 1999, but this catalogue has long been out of print. The new publication has been undertaken by the Leventis Foundation and the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, with Karageorghis again as the author.

Numerous new photographs have been used in the new edition. “The Severis Collection is rich in Mycenaean and early Iron Age Cypriote pottery as well as terracottas of all periods,” said a statement from Leventis.

The Phylactou Collection is being published for the first time, with Karageorghis as the author.

The most important part of the collection is the prehistoric pottery, Leventis said.

The two illustrated catalogues are on sale at the shop of the Leventis Municipal Museum, at the offices of the Leventis Foundation at 40, Gladstonos Street, Nicosia, and in bookshops.
