Cyprus women’s dragon boat team win gold in Serbia

The Cyprus Women’s Dragon Boat Team took first place and won gold medals at the recent Serbian International Dragon Boat Festival held in Belgrade.

Team members, selected from 3 Cyprus Clubs (Limassol Dragons, Limassol Paddlesports, and Limassol Spartans) of the Cyprus Dragon Boat Association, took the honour in a hard-fought race against teams from Serbia and China.

The teams competed in the Standard Boat category and raced a distance of 200 metres. Helm, Dimitris Anastasiou, steered the Cyprus team to victory with a winning time of 50.17 seconds!

Team Captain, Monika Jakab, said “this is a brilliant result and a great step forward for the Women’s Dragon Boat Team.  We all are very proud to have won a gold medal for Cyprus and we will continue to develop our team for the European Championships in 2016, and hopefully the World Championships in 2017”.
