Relief as missing tourist found in Larnaca

FRIENDS of a Swedish tourist who had been missing for nearly a week were relieved last night after learning that he had been found safe but confused in Larnaca.

Olof Victor Hugo Ronnerdag, 21, was found wandering the streets of Larnaca yesterday lunchtime, with police describing him as being physically unharmed but ‘totally confused’.

“He remembers nothing. We will talk to him at the station. We do not know where he has been during these days but we will know everything soon,” said police spokesman Yiannos Kyriakidis.

Ronnerdag apparently told police he had no recollection of the past five days and was surprised that he had been the focus of a massive search.

He mysteriously vanished in the resort of Ayia Napa last week, having last been seen on Thursday night after returning to his hotel room, declining an invitation to party with friends, saying he felt unwell.

Friends became alarmed when they discovered his room empty several hours later.

Ronnedag had been staying with a group of friends at the Pavlinia apartments, a popular spot for young Scandinavian tourists.

On Friday one friend told a Swedish newspaper he had made contact with the missing man by mobile phone on Friday morning, but just heard him say “huh huh,” before being disconnected.

By Saturday a team of police officers, including specialist search teams, scoured the surrounding area and a full investigation was launched, involving Interpol.

The group of friends who were with Ronnedag flew back to Sweden yesterday, but waited anxiously at Larnaca airport praying he would turn up.

Ronnerdag will be flown home this morning when he will be re-united with friends and family.

“We are absolutely relieved,” Magdalena Öhrn from travel operator Wing, with who Ronnerdag was traveling.
