A 22-YEAR-OLD man from Neo Chorio in Paphos has been arrested in the shooting of a Bulgarian couple outside their home late on Wednesday.
According to police, the suspect who is also Bulgarian went to the couple’s home at around 11pm on Wednesday and asked the 42-year-old Bulgarian target to come outside.
When he did the suspect allegedly fired at him with a hunting rifle.
He sustained injuries to his cheek, while his wife, who had been standing behind him at the time, was injured in her pelvis after being hit several times. The couple, both aged 42,  were taken to Paphos general hospital and received treatment for their injuries.
The husband was kept in overnight and his wife was discharged after receiving treatment at First Aid.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting and commenced forensic investigations. They found numerous pellets on the ground.
The suspect was arrested at 4am yesterday and admitted to the crime, police said. He also informed police of where they could find the gun, which he had previously stolen from a home in the village during a burglary days earlier, as well as a knife.
The couple knew the assailant and had gone to the door in response to shouting from the 22-year-old, who was standing in front of their house.
The suspect has been remanded in custody for eight days while the details of the case are being collected.  Police are seeking to charge him with attempted murder and the illegal possession and transportation of a firearm.
According to police reports, the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation.
The case is still under investigation and no clear idea of motive has as yet been established.  Other than the fact that all three persons so far indicated as being involved in the case live in the same village no further details as to how they knew each other and what the nature of the relationship between them may have been have as yet come to light.
The Paphos CID is continuing its investigations into the case.
