Trachoni tackles graffiti menaces

THE BRITISH Bases police got together with a group of disaffected youth to paint the Trachoni high school which had fallen prey to a lot of graffiti, according to an SBA press release.

The Community Policing Sector for Trachoni of the SBA police is working very closely in collaboration with the village head and the community council to find a unique way to handle the problem of graffiti in the village.

Following research carried out by the SBA police within the Trachoni village community, they discovered that a large group of young men had a lot of free time on their hands.

For this reason, they felt bored so they passed their time in the evenings “decorating” the village walls with graffiti.

In a meeting with the chairman of the community the young men were encouraged to carry out other activities such as becoming members of the local youth centre, play football for the local team and take on part-time employment.

Also the police together with a group of youngsters re-painted the Trachoni high school where there was a lot of graffiti.

In an effort to prevent crime, the SBA police are providing close circuit surveillance in the schools to try to eliminate this problem.

According to the SBA announcement, all these activities led to a drastic reduction in graffiti on walls in Trachoni, enhancing the view that police collaboration with the local authorities can work for the benefit of the community.
