Conscript killed on his way back to barracks

National Guard conscript Marios Katsamis, 19, from Athienou, Larnaca, lost his life in a car crash near the Koshi barracks on Saturday morning, a police report said.
According to the report, at around 9:30 am Saturday, under unknown circumstances, Katsamis lost control of his car on the old Larnaca-Nicosia road, while returning to the barracks where he was stationed.
The car hit the road’s embankment before crashing into adjacent cypress trees and overturning repeatedly.
The 19-year-old, who is thought to not have been wearing his seatbelt, was hurled out of the car and found lying in the left ditch by the parents of other conscripts taking their children back to the Koshi barracks.
An ambulance rushed the boy to the Larnaca General, where the attending doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
