I would love to eat low fat meals – if only I could afford them

Regarding your article in the Cyprus Mail (‘It’s going to get hotter’, July 24) the advice given by Eleni Andreou Registered Clinical Dietician that “meals should be low fat such as fish, vegetables, boiled pasta, chicken, salads and fruits” makes me wonder if the lady in question has been shopping recently.

With the prices of chicken and fish being double those of pork, it is highly unlikely that this advice can be followed by the average family.

And while we are on the subject, why is it that in Cyprus chicken is on average priced at €7-10 per kilo, when anywhere else in Europe chicken is the cheapest meat available? Common sense would dictate that it must be easier to raise chicken than pigs?

Fish? We are on an island in the Mediterranean, but I have failed to see the fishing fleets leaving the harbour every morning, providing the people on this island with fresh fish. This may explain why fish is only on the menu once in a while, as a special treat.

So thank you for the good advice, Eleni Andreou – unfortunately it is out of my budget range.
