New eco bus design goes on display

THE NICOSIA Municipality yesterday called on the public to give their opinions on the various designs to go on display for the new eco-friendly city bus for the capital.

The eco bus is supported by Nicosia Municipality, CYTA and the Demades Design Ltd which is responsible for its design.

“We acknowledge the lack of public transportation and we have contributed to finding a solution,” said the president of the municipality’s traffic and parking committee, Andreas Matsas.

“We consider that this new design should be created accordingly for the different traffic needs. We strongly support the Cypriot art designers and their knowledge in the field and believe in creating new job opportunities.”

Funds will be coming from the European Union with the design adapted to Nicosia’s specific transportation needs. At a later stage Matsas said the eco bus could be used and in other cities.

Mayor of Nicosia, Eleni Mavrou, will open the exhibition at the Municipal Centre in the old market of Pallouriotissa on July 1 at 7.30pm.The exhibition will remain open until July 8.
