Tiffany gets renamed to ‘My Mall’

LIMASSOL’S recently opened Tiffany Mall has been renamed to ‘My Mall’, following an out of court settlement between Tiffany Investments Ltd and US-based Tiffany & Co.

The American company reportedly objected to the use of the name ‘Tiffany’ both by the mall and the company that owns it, which lead to the name change to avoid legal troubles.

“The changed name and logo is effective as of now, the changes will be made immediately and a new campaign launched. This was done after an out of court settlement with American Tiffany & Co.,” confirmed Maria Theodotou, Marketing Executive, My Mall.

Tiffany & Co approached Tiffany Mall even before its official opening on May 29, explaining their objection to the choice of name and the intention to take legal measures unless the name was changed.

“Discussions between the lawyers of the two sides started shortly before the official opening and they had reached the agreement to change the name since then.

“However, they also agreed to hold on to the name ‘Tiffany’ until after the opening and subsequently implement the change,” explained, Andri Saourou, Account Executive, Gnora Communication Consultants.

Although Tiffany Mall has been renamed to My Mall, the company that owns the €150 million commercial investment, Tiffany Investments Ltd. will not be changing its name. The company was registered over three years ago and the settlement with Tiffany & Co provides that the investors can hold on to their name.

Over 70 shops presently operate at the mall, which is the largest in Cyprus. Thirty more stores are expected to open over the next few weeks. The centre has attracted a high number of visitors since its opening and its operators believe that its success will not be affected by the name change.

“I do not think this will affect the mall’s success – there is no reason why it should. The mall has been doing exceptionally well and will continue to do so,” said Theodotou.

Entertainment venues at the mall, including the cafés, restaurants and ice ring are open until midnight, while shops are open at regular retail hours.
