Keep up momentum, says Downer

ANY disappointment over the failure thus far to reach agreement on Limnitis should not be allowed to stem the impetus of reunification talks, UN Special Envoy Alexander Downer said yesterday.

“The main game,” as Downer put it, was to keep the momentum in negotiations going.

He was speaking to newsmen shortly after meeting separately with President Christofias at the Presidential Palace.

The Australian diplomat refused to be drawn on whether the Limnitis issue was deadlocked, or whether the dispute threatened to derail peace talks.

“There are good days and there are bad days, and that should come as no surprise,” he offered.
