CY 24-hour service

CYPRUS Airways’ (CY) Larnaca Airport office will start operating from today on a 24-hour basis, the airline’s spokesman Kyriacos Kyriacou said yesterday.

Kyriacou had been invited to the House Commerce Committee to explain CY’s reasons for closing down its customer service office in Larnaca.

Speaking after the meeting, Kyriacou explained that as of today, the CY office will operate at Larnaca Airport on a 24-hour basis and will serve the travelling public “in the best possible way”.

He added, “Phone calls to the Tele-service Centre on 8000008 that are made after 8 pm, will be transferred to the on-duty staff, who will be working at the airport on a 24-hour basis”.

DIKO Deputy Angelos Votsis was sceptical of Kyriacou’s claims that the company had worked things out with its workers. “Despite the fact that they told us today that they have worked things out with their employers, and this is a positive element, Cyprus Airways continue not to give us the information we requested as Parliament, which proves their decision was right,” said Votsis.

Earlier this month when the CY decision was announced, Deputies from most parties expressed their concern over the decision, questioning the CY representatives on the current scope of the Larnaca office’s operation, its level of funding and the “reach” of the services offered, especially to members of the public who cannot use the internet or telephone to obtain the required services.

They also asked for figures from CY which would show whether the Larnaca office is loss-making or not.
