Some of us can’t wait to leave Cyprus

I read the letter from Patricia and John Jupe extolling the virtues of living in Cyprus.  What I can’t help wondering is if they think the place is so great, why are they still living in the UK?
At least those of us who now want to leave Cyprus have actually given living here full time a go. We thought that Cyprus was wonderful until we came here to live permanently but now we can’t wait to return to the UK.

During the wintertime, hardly anywhere is open, shop opening hours are antiquated, buses don’t run on an evening, restricting where you can go without the need to take a vastly overpriced taxi and it’s just generally mind-numbingly boring!

We’ve always holidayed here during the winter but only for a week at a time – totally different when you have to endure the whole winter. The only people who seem to enjoy living here at this time are those people who spend their lives sitting in the sun cultivating the brown leathery look or those who spend their time in bars or at the UKCA playing Scrabble or Bingo.

To top it all off, we now find that we can’t sell our property because the banks aren’t lending money on resale properties. Chances are we’ll have to hand the keys over to the bank because we can’t afford to pay the mortgage on our house here and rent somewhere in the UK at the same time and there’s no way I’m staying here. As a result we’ll end up losing thousands of pounds but it’s preferable to remaining in Cyprus.
