Paralympic champ Richardson in Cyprus for series of talks

FAMOUS paralympian cyclist Simon Richardson is giving a series of talks in Cyprus this week.

Richardson, who won a double gold and a silver medal in the 2008 paralympic games, is going to share his story with the public, offering a message of perseverance in adversity.

Following an accident in 2001, he was confined to a wheelchair. This did not deter Richardson, who had been a keen cyclist before his accident; and he consequently trained for the 2008 paralympics. In 2011, he was involved in another road accident, again sustaining serious back injuries. The injuries prevented him from taking part in the 2012 paralympics.

He will give two speeches in Nicosia and Limassol, addressing lovers of cycling, people with disabilities and athletes and their families. During his visit, he will also visit schools in the Limassol and Nicosia districts.

At the invitation of the Cyprus Cycling Federation, Richardson is going to be in Cyprus until October 5. His visit is under the auspices of the British High Commissioner and is supported by the Bank of Cyprus, the Cyprus paraplegic organisation and the Cyprus national paralympic commission.
