Cyprus needs to slow down and enjoy the scenery, not another motorway

What are we, the people who live in Cyprus, doing to preserve our wonderful countryside, our wildlife, our wonderful villages – the reason why we all want to live here?

Politicians really don’t care – they are only concerned with their own status, their own pockets and those that will benefit from this dreadful Polis-Paphos motorway.

Have the local residents who will be severely affected by this construction made their views known? Have they had any say in this proposed road? You bet they have not: money will not give us back our scenery, our land, our wildlife.

We have too much to loose: each and every resident should have the right to fight this proposed road. Come on Cyprus, wake up time! Make some noise, make yourself heard – make these politicians realise we really care. We do not want to save 8mins to get from A to B.

This is money that this country can ill-afford: put it back into the country and to areas that need it. We have a great road, leave it be, and spend your money wisely – after all, we have all had to cut down – so can you.

So they have secured the money from the banks; shame on you – look after the small businesses who make this country operate – they are there for us all. Surely Cyprus is not immune to the current financial situation around the world – how can they possibly justify this expenditure?

If there are problems with this road, then widen it, make it safer, make more ‘no overtaking’ areas. I love this drive – don’t take it away. I don’t want nine flyovers, two tunnels, underground passes and bridges – I want to drive and enjoy it – not a concrete jungle.
