Man kidnapped and released

A 38-YEAR-OLD Cypriot man was beaten kidnapped and dumped at Petra tou Romiou in Paphos early yesterday morning.

A suspect, a Bulgarian national, has already been arrested for the crime and police are looking for his three accomplices, who are also thought to be non-Cypriot.

Police believe the men had worked for the victim and may have been owed money.

A witness reported to police that two vehicles, one belonging to the victim, Demetris Demetriou, were parked outside Paphos fire station at 6am on Monday morning.

Three assailants jumped on the victim and began to beat him. He was then thrown in to the back of one of the cars and the kidnappers sped off. He was later released close to Aphrodite’s rock in Paphos. He was reported to have sustained slight injuries.

Burglary warning

POLICE are urging residents to invest in extra security measures after two burglaries in Peyia over the weekend. The method used in both cases was similar, leading police to suspect the same culprits committed them.

One woman reported jewellery valued at €2,000 and two cameras valued at €300 had been stolen. In the second case, €20,000 worth of jewellery and a camera valued at €650 was stolen. Experts are predicting a surge in break-ins as unemployment figures rise.

Drunks on plane

TWO YOUNG Russian men aged 20 and 21 were arrested at Paphos airport at the weekend for drunk and disorderly conduct. The Eurocypria crew on a flight from Russia had reported their unsociable behaviour prior to landing at Paphos, but despite warnings to calm down, they continued to abuse and swear at police. They were arrested and taken into custody until they sobered.
