More rain expected over weekend

MORE rain is expected over the weekend and on Monday, while low temperatures will also continue over the next three days, according to the Meteorological Service. The relatively high atmospheric pressure is expected to subside, giving way to more rain and snow in the mountains.

“The relatively high pressures will slowly drop from Sunday-Monday, when a more organised weather system will form, creating some rain, falling as snow in the mountains,” explained Loizos Stefanou, Senior Meteorological Officer.

Present high pressure systems, are not strong enough to constitute an anti-cyclone, which would have ruled out the possibility of rain. Even so, the predicted drop in atmospheric pressure will create conditions conducive to rain.

“December was a good month in terms of rainfall. If the rain continues, it would be a benefit for agriculture,” Stefanou said.
