14:16 ANORTHOSIS manager Ronny Levy expressed the hope his side can continue to build on a six-match undefeated run when they take on local rivals AEK this afternoon at 6pm at the Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium in Larnaca.
“We have an important game ahead of us, as we do every week. What we need to focus on is maintaining our consistency. I believe that we are on the right track. The game will be difficult as it is a city derby which has a particular relevance for our club and our fans,” Levy said.
“However, with the support of our great fans we can get a good result if we stick to our game plan,” he added.
AEK meanwhile sacked manager Tom Caanen this week despite solid performances under his leadership in both the national championship and Europa League this season. The new coach, whose name has yet to be announced, is expected to watch today’s game from the stands.
Elsewhere today, AEL host Olympiakos at 7pm at the Tsirion Stadium.
After advancing to the knockout stages of the Champions League on Wednesday night with a goalless draw against Russian side Zenit in Saint Petersburg, APOEL return to domestic action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Enosis Neon Paralimni.
“I want everyone to understand that we do not think reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League will be the last thing we are going to celebrate this season,” said APOEL coach Ivan Jovanovic. “There is one more game left in the group stage and we take our obligations very seriously in all competitions.
“Now we turn to the next game in the local championship,” he added.
“We want to win every game and I do not want to believe that we have reached our full potential, because if that was true we would now be in decline. I do not want this to happen to my team any time soon,” Jovanovic concluded.
