Sleaze doctor will go straight to trial

18:40 A 56-YEAR-OLD Larnaca gynaecologist, arrested for alleged multiple sexual assault was today referred for trial before the Criminal Court, facing some 200 charges.

Sixteen charges concern rape while the rest relate to sexual abuse of patients, aged between the ages of 17 and 50, indecent assault, and illicit use of drugs, police spokesman Michalis Katsounotos said.  

The court will decide tomorrow whether the doctor will be held in custody until his trial, which starts on December 8.

The gynaecologist was arrested in October following a complaint from a female patient, 26, that she woke up during ‘surgery’ to find him naked on top of her.  The court heard that the doctor told her the sedative he had administered was causing her hallucinations.

Since his arrest, the doctor has been remanded three times.

The police have gathered around 500 photos of naked women taken between July 2009 and October 2011. Around 150 pictures were found on the day of his arrest.

Police also found photos of the 26-year-old woman who reported him on his camera.

The hearing was held behind close doors.

The court banned publication by any means, of evidence related to the case in a bid to safeguard the integrity of the case and confidentiality of the testimonies.
