Credit card use up on road tax payments

CREDIT card spending rose 16 per cent year on year last month after a rush by car owners to renew their road tax online, clearing agency JCC said yesterday.

JCC said transactions were valued at €181.9 million with about 25 per cent of the amount spent on paying for road tax renewals. From January, some €362.9 million had been spent with credit cards, a 14 per cent climb from a year ago, it said.

JCC is a partnership of the island’s main commercial banks.
