Cypriot is World Junior Chef of the Year

YOUNG chef Savvas Savva has won the title of World Junior Chef of the Year at the 8th International Istanbul Gastronomy Festival, among competitors from 35 countries.

Although he has won many culinary competitions abroad and in Cyprus, such as the Silver Award for the Gastronomic Culinary College Competition of Cyprus 2010, this is the highest distinction of Savva’s career so far.

He will be the head chef at the Archontiko Papadopoulou restaurant in Kornos, which opens in May 2011 and serves a more modern version of traditional Cypriot food. He began his career in 2005 as chef at the Heniba Hotel in Larnaca, then worked his way up to head of the kitchen at Hobos Café. From 2007 to 2008 he worked at the hotel Le Meridien Spa and Resorts in Limassol and then at Palm Beach Hotel in Larnaca.

Born in Larnaca in 1986, Savva first studied at Kes College in Nicosia then at the Higher Hotel Institute Cyprus, before completing a Bachelor of Science in Professional Culinary Arts from the University of Derby. He is a member of the Cyprus Chefs Association and Euro-Toques of Cyprus.
